One of my favourite pieces of advice is “Don’t pull on the grass when you want it to grow, because it won't grow any faster”. What a beautiful representation of the importance of patience, in any form; of patience with everything around us, our loved ones, and especially with ourselves.
We live in a fast-paced era where everything seems to be happening now. This pace and pressure can have us almost paralyzed, trapped in a tumult. We want everything now, we want to tick off our to-do list, already be where we intend to arrive, to always be somewhere else or with someone else than what is here and now in our lives.
Chronic dissatisfactionwould be the "diagnosis" of many people today, a dissatisfaction that has its roots in the lack of patience.
How can we learn to change the speed, to gear down and even stop sometimes? How can we find and hold on to a state of creative peacein which we retrieve our inner power, charge ourselves with the strength, the faith, the determinationand forța, credința, determinarea all the other ingredients we need in order to get to where we want?
Cultivating Patience
How can we cultivate patience?
My biggest tip for cultivating patience is to observe naturefrom the tiniest midge to the most imposing mountain, from the gentle breeze to the ice that encompasses everything in winter.
We cannot say that the acorn waits patiently for the oak to grow, or that the wind has patience when it spreads heat or hail; nor does the bear have patience until it goes out of the lair with its offspring. There is no such notion of patience in nature, for it is like a flux that flows through everythingnot something separate, which can be named or differentiated. It is an integral part of that inherent rhythm of nature. Observing this rhythm of nature, understanding and "learning" it is what helps us to learn patience.
Learning from Mother Nature
Nature gradually teaches us to notice the rhythm of our inner life through its mirroring. It’s not dictated by the alarm clock, or the news on TV. It is our inner voice that leads us to maturity, to knowledge and to depth.
Patience is gradually revealed to be a force, a huge power that we can harnessthat leads us where we want and helps us reach our goals .
Mother Nature is a great teacher.
